In the second quarter of 2024, China’s fitness equipment exports performed strongly, continuing the growth momentum from the beginning of the year. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, the total value of China’s goods trade imports and exports reached RMB 21.17 trillion, an increase of 6.1% year-on-year. The monthly export value saw continuous year-on-year growth for three consecutive months. The export data for treadmills and other fitness and rehabilitation equipment were particularly notable, reflecting the robust global demand for Chinese fitness equipment.
Treadmill Export Analysis
In the second quarter of 2024, China’s treadmill exports (HS code: 95069111) totaled 4.48 million units, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 40.65% and a year-on-year increase of 38.9%. The export value reached USD 346 million, growing by 26.76% quarter-on-quarter and 52.28% year-on-year. This indicates a significant increase in global demand for treadmills, with Chinese treadmill exports continuing to grow rapidly.
From the perspective of export markets, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany remain the primary destinations, accounting for approximately 50% of total exports. The sustained growth in these markets demonstrates their strong consumer power. Additionally, emerging markets such as Russia, Mexico, and India saw significant increases, highlighting their potential consumption power. For example, the rapid growth in the Mexican market indicates a swift expansion of the fitness industry in that country.
Regarding export regions, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, and Shanghai in eastern coastal areas remain the main production and export regions for treadmills. Zhejiang province’s export value reached USD 128 million, accounting for nearly 50% of the total. Notably, Jiangxi province saw a significant increase in treadmill exports this quarter, reaching USD 11.6 million, a quarter-on-quarter growth of 170.9%, reflecting the rapid development of the fitness equipment manufacturing industry in this region.
Other Fitness and Rehabilitation Equipment Export Analysis
Aside from treadmills, China’s exports of other fitness and rehabilitation equipment (HS code: 95069119) in the second quarter of 2024 totaled USD 1.252 billion, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 16.56% and a year-on-year increase of 27.02%. This growth reflects strong global demand for a diverse range of fitness and rehabilitation equipment.
The U.S. market remains the largest export destination, with an export value of USD 411 million, accounting for 32.85% of the overall export market. Other traditional European and American markets, such as the United Kingdom and Germany, continue to lead. Additionally, Malaysia continued the strong growth momentum observed in the first quarter, while Mexico’s export value increased by 44.92% quarter-on-quarter, making it a highlight in fitness equipment exports this quarter.
In terms of export enterprises' distribution, the eastern coastal regions remain the main production and export areas. However, the export value from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region saw a slight decline compared to the previous quarter, while Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s exports of other fitness and rehabilitation equipment reached USD 13.53 million this quarter, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 56.55%, making its first appearance in the top ten and showing outstanding performance.
Conclusion
In the second quarter of 2024, China’s fitness equipment exports showed exceptional performance, particularly in the treadmill and other fitness and rehabilitation equipment sectors. The strong global demand for Chinese-made fitness equipment is evident. With the rapid growth of emerging markets and the expansion of domestic production enterprises, China’s position in the international fitness equipment market will continue to strengthen and rise.
